WORKSHOP: The Gates of Grief

An 8-Week Journey Through Sorrow and Healing

Workshop Overview

Explore and honor your grief by joining us for ‘The Gates of Grief’ workshop.

This is an 8-week immersive workshop designed to guide participants through the profound and varied experiences of grief. As an end-of-life doula, grief guide, and educator, Rebecca Churt will lead you through this transformative journey, rooted in a community-based approach that honors grief as a vital life skill.

Grief is about losing a loved one; AND it also encompasses lost opportunities, broken relationships, and even sorrow for the world itself.

This workshop is an invitation to practice presence, bear witness, and hold space for what feels difficult, all within a compassionate, supportive community.

Join us as we step into the halls of sorrow together, not to remedy, but to create room for the fullness of our human experience.

The Gates of Grief Workshop was an immensely helpful personal experience navigating through my grief. Each week I encountered myself and the work I was longing to do, to release, and to grow within. Each aspect was woven gently and just right for the day's theme.

When I signed up for this course, I knew that I was curious about the content and also in need of the container. The real revelation for me was how profound it has been to have this community. And another surprise—there were moments of real fun, joy, and connection amidst the sorrow.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Each week, Rebecca will lead participants through an exploration of a different "Gate of Grief," a concept inspired by the understanding that grief is multifaceted and deeply woven into the fabric of our lives. The gates include:

  1. Everything We Love, We Will Lose
  2. The Places That Have Not Known Love
  3. The Sorrows of the World
  4. What We Expected and Did Not Receive
  5. Ancestral Grief
  6. The Harms We’ve Caused

Through guided meditations, reflective writing, creative practices, and group sharing, participants will deepen their relationship with grief, cultivate resilience, and discover a "cosmology of connection" that honors both individual and collective sorrow.

We hope you'll join us. We've answered some additional questions below, and should you need support while deciding please feel free to reach out.

Some benefits:

  • Expanded understanding of what grief is
  • Connecting with others in a supportive space
  • Insightful practices and tools for embracing and navigating grief

My experience with the gates of grief group was incredible. Together we built a deep and respectful container that was expertly crafted and facilitated by Rebecca. This class gently opened these gates for me to access and do the work. This class has shown that grief work is the work!

This workshop is for anyone seeking to explore their grief in a structured and supportive environment. Whether you have navigated personal loss, the ache of unmet expectations, or a deep sorrow for the world, this space is for you.
If you are experiencing a very recent loss, however, you may wish to pause and consider whether this is the right time for this work. Trust your intuition about what feels most supportive for your healing right now.

That’s okay! We encourage everyone to join the first session to connect with the group, receive a warm welcome, and get grounded in the group agreements and become familiar with the gates. All sessions will be recorded and available for playback if you miss a week. That said, the real magic happens when everyone is present, so we hope you can attend as many sessions as possible!

Our time together will be grounded in principles of deep listening, humility, and bearing witness. We will practice being present without trying to fix or advise, and we will treat all shared experiences with confidentiality and care.

In 2023 Rebecca dedicated eight months to studying the Gates of Grief. Most of that time was with Francis Weller directly who's given his explicit permission to bring this work into the world.
